Events Overview

Welcome to the Events Overview which provides a snapshot of many of the different events that CCLVI offers weekly, monthly, and annually.

Zoom Calls

Everyone is welcome to attend these events by calling in, accessing the Zoom mobile app or the Zoom website. Meeting reminders are sent weekly. You may sign-up to receive the announcements and Zoom details by subscribing to our CCLVI-Chat list. To join the list, please send an email to CCLVI-Chat+subscribe@acblists.org  or to our Webmaster at CCLVIWebmaster@gmail.com

In addition, all CCLVI events, except our business and committee meetings, are listed on the ACB Community schedule distributed via that email list. Those individuals without email can access this information by phone by dialing 1-800-424-8666 and following the prompts.

Special Events

The New Affordable Connectivity Program FCC- on Zoom
Two Special Events for All, but especially those people who are blind or have low vision and have little or no Internet access.  Please reach out to others and let them know that the Council of Citizens with Low Vision International (CCLVI) and VISAbilities (Visually Impaired Seniors’ Abilities) will co-host a one-hour presentation by the Federal Communications Commission on the new Affordable Connectivity Program.  This program is meant to assist people with limited income or receiving government programs, such as SSI, get connected with Internet access.

We are holding these two opportunities on

  • Tuesday, February 8th,at 3:00 PM EST. (Afternoon session)
  • Wednesday, February 9th, at 8:00 PM EST. (Evening session)

Currently, we hold these weekly calls on a variety of topics related to low vision. Events include  special speakers, technology discussion, coping with low vision chats, peer support, book discussions, inspirational topics,  themed chats, game nights (specific Mondays),  and more! We welcome all to join us. And if you have a suggestion for a topic, please contact our web team!

CCLVI Board Meetings

Our monthly CCLVI Board Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, beginning at 8 :30pm  Eastern. These meetings are also held on Zoom. You may sign-up to receive all the meeting announcements and Zoom details by subscribing to our CCLVI-Chat list; email our webmaster to join the list.

 

Let’s Talk Low Vision

Each third Thursday at 8:30 pm, we host Let’s Talk Low Vision. Please visit this page to read exciting details about this  monthly Zoom call. 

Dr. Bill Takeshita hosts Let’s Talk Low Vision. The shows include guest speakers, resources, and special topics related to adjusting to low vision.

 

Low Vision Peer Support Group

The third Monday evening of each month, beginning October 2021,  we hold a peer support group for individuals impacted by low vision. These Zoom calls will have facilitators and topics for each session to enable participants to share their experiences and seek peer support. Zoom information is distributed via the  CCLV-Chat and ACB Community lists.

 

What can you expect on CCLVI Zoom events?

  • Meet people from across the globe who are impacted by low vision.
  • Discussion topics which relate to low vision.
  • Special events including game nights, mixers, special speakers, low vision peer support group meetings, and more.
  • Facilitators to enhance our discussions, and coordinate events.
  • Hosts to assist with Zoom technology needs.
  • And, we observe our CCLVI Code of Conduct .

 

CCLVI Annual Conference

Usually, in July, of each year CCLVI holds it’s annual conference in coordination with the American Council of the Blind (ACB) Annual  Conference and Convention. In 2020 and 2021, these have been virtual events held on Zoom and accessible by computer, smartphone, and landline phone.

We have a long history of exciting, fun, and informative CCLVI conferences. Watch the convention webpage (coming soon)  for more information as planning continues for the next one! All are welcome to consider joining us for our conferences.
