What is LVA?

Low Vision Alliance (LVA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and a Special Interest Affiliate of the American Council of the Blind.

We are an international nonprofit organization and community of individuals who understand low vision needs and experiences. LVA is here to provide support, resources, education, and advocacy for those who are impacted by low vision and visual impairment. From publications to live Zoom calls, online resources, and conferences. Discover what we have to offer you.

The Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program:
Awarding four (4) students an individual prize of $3,000. This competitive scholarship is available to full-time college students with low vision, chosen from among those who meet the visual acuity and academic guidelines.

The Dr. Samuel Genensky-Foley Magnifier Award:

The Genensky-Foley Award Committee procures donations of video magnification devices to ensure the continued viability of the program established by our founder Dr. Samuel Genensky, considered to be the father of the CCTV and Carl Foley, a distributor of magnification devices who made sure each person served had the best device to meet their needs.

As a LVA member you have several benefits including, but not limited to, the following. LVA members

  • Receive our newsletter, “Vision Access”, which is published six times a year.
  • Receive the “ACB Braille Forum” published by the American Council of the Blind.
  • Are added to our members only email list to receive notification of all organization events.
  • May participate in committees, and if elected/appointed serve as a LVA Director or Officer. 
  • May attend open LVA committee and Board meetings.
  • May vote at our Annual Membership Meeting.
